First published in 1970 by the author's father, Calvin Burt, and his partner, Ret. Col. Frank Heyl, the western edition of this field guide has enjoyed unflagging popularity among hikers, campers, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts. The western edition was soon followed by a version devoted to edible and poisonous plants of the eastern U.S. The western edition features many of the plants mentioned in the King of the Trees series. Both editions have also been utilized extensively by U.S. military personnel for survival training purposes.
These guides are printed in a convenient and compact playing-card format, 52 per deck, ideal for carrying in pocket or backpack. A full-color photo of each plant appears on the front of the card, with a detailed description of the species, its habitat and uses on the back.
Descriptions of edible species appear in black text; descriptions of poisonous species appear in red text. Poisonous species are additionally set apart by the word, "POISONOUS" instead of the word, "Uses."
THESE "PLANT DECKS" ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN MOST RETAIL OUTLETS OR THROUGH OTHER ONLINE STORES.
PLEASE SPECIFY EITHER THE WESTERN OR THE EASTERN EDITION.
